Glass Type For Glass Railing Used For Deck/Balcony/Terrace/Stair
Tempered glass and laminated glass are often used for glass railing and must be compliant with architectural glass standards. Glass panel edge is highly polished and with radius corner.
Fully tempered glass, normally referred to as just “tempered glass” and “toughened glass”, is approximately four times stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness and configuration. When it is broken, tempered glass fractures into small fragments that reduce the probability of serious injury as compared to annealed glass. Tempered glass meets all safety glazing standards including the federal safety glazing standard, CPSC 16 CFR because tempered glass fractures into many small pieces, it tends to vacate the opening when broken, more than heat-strengthened and annealed glass does.
Tempered Glass Thickness Used for Railing
10mm and 3/8″
12mm and 1/2″
15mm and 5/8″
19mm and 3/4″
12mm thick tempered glass is the most popular for a private area. 15mm and 19mm thick toughened glass is often required for commercial areas or beachfront area.
Laminated Tempered Glass
Laminated Glass is a multifunctional glazing material that can be used in a variety of applications. It is manufactured permanently bonding two or more lites of glass with layers of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer, under heat and pressure, to create a single construction.
Laminated Tempered Glass Thickness
13.52mm and 9/16″
17.52mm and 11/16″
21.52mm and 27/32″
Interlayer Film Type
SGP high strength film
SGP laminated tempered glass is often used for commercial railing such as beachfront high rise apartment in Hurricane Zone，building, airport, hotel, gymnasium.
